The school year is right around the corner. To the newcomers, welcome to Team 24! To the Team 24 veterans, I am so excited to work with your children again, and to see how they've grown this summer. I am pleased to be your family’s teacher this year.
Teaching has been my passion since I was a kid myself. When I was in third grade I decided I wanted to be a special educator after spending time helping in a special needs class. Since then, I've worked to become the teacher I am today. I attended Cal State Long Beach and National University to earn my degrees in Special Education. I started my teaching career in Poway Unified School District in 2008. This is my second year teaching in Santee, and I love being a Roadrunner!
Update for this School Year
This year our class will be a straight 6th grade class instead of a combo class. How exciting! Mrs. Craft will be our classroom instructional assistant. She began working in our class last February.
Your Role as a Parent
Because you are an important part of the team, I will be calling on you this year for support. I’ll send weekly communication home via email that reviews your child’s week at school. The kids will monitor their behavior choices themselves at the beginning of the year via a point sheet. Feel free to check in with them or with me for updates about behavior.
I am trying something different this year. There will be no formally assigned nightly or weekly homework this year, however, there will be some long term assignments throughout the year. Rather than focus on nightly homework, I ask that you spend your evenings doing things that are researched and proven to correlate with student success. Eat dinner as a family, read together, play outside, engage in research and learning that is relevant and interesting to your child, and get your child to bed early.
How to Reach Me
If you need to reach me, there are lots of ways. The best way is through email. My email is email@example.com. You can also call the school at 619-956-5500 and dial my extension which is x5544. Feel free to write and send it in. I will respond to you as soon as possible.
School supplies are largely communal in our class. I know they can be expensive, so I appreciate any donations you are able to make in order to make our learning environment fun and dynamic. If you are looking for a way to donate that is tax deductible, please consider donating to our class through our site on DonorsChoose.org. Here is the link to our class site so you can check out the projects already completed and the donations made last year.
Below is a list of school supplies I recommend for the upcoming school year. The "Needs" Section shows the essentials that the kids will need throughout the year. The "Wants" section shows items that will largely help to make our classroom community welcoming, fun, and conducive to learning. These items help to meet basic and emotional needs of the students.
