Student Created Norms
  • Our motto is T.E.A.M

Together everyone achieves more!  Our class strives to make “WE decisions, not ME decisions.”  We ask ourselves, “Is it safe?  Would it be O.K. if everybody did it?”  We practice real-world skills like being respectful and responsible, following directions, managing our own behavior, and being prepared and ready to learn.

    Behavior/ Discipline

Every child has the right to learn in a safe, caring, and comfortable environment. Every teacher has the right to teach in a safe, caring, and comfortable environment.  I strive to create an environment where students feel welcomed, valued, and encouraged to take ownership of their learning. However, if a student is disruptive or disrespectful in class or on the playground, the following behavior management system is in place:

    I use the STEP System:

    1. The look and verbal warning…it usually works!
    2. Teacher-student conference and loss of a privilege (recess or other related, appropriate consequence).
    3. I make parent contact after school.
    4. Principal is involved.
    5. Office referral (In-School/Out-of-school suspension).

*Some exceptions to this policy include any hands-on offense (fighting), drug or alcohol use and weapon possession. These are zero-tolerance offenses and will be dealt with by administration immediately.

    Rewards and Incentives

I believe in honoring and acknowledging children’s achievements at school. These successes may be academic, social, or behavioral.  I also believe in rewarding students with special privileges, such as raffle tickets and special class activities. I want your child to know that they are appreciated when they display good citizenship, character, and decision-making. I also like the class to work collaboratively in earning group rewards to be shared together, such as “brownie points” parties.
