Dear Rio Seco Families,
Welcome to the 2017-18 school year! I have officially changed my name to Mrs. Gibson, I recently married, so you may recognize me by Ms. Journeay. I am so excited to be your junior high teacher! This is my fourth year at Rio Seco, but my 29th year of teaching. I have taught 5, 6, and 7th grades at Hill Creek School and I’m looking forward to getting to know the Rio Seco community even better.
One of the important aspects to success is organization and responsibility. It is critical to keep up on daily work and assignments. Homework is typically any work not completed in class. If your student is consistently coming home with work to finish, chances are likely that class time is not being used effectively. Late work will be accepted for partial credit.
Each student has received a step card that they are responsible to have with them during their school day. There are not separate step cards for separate classes, so it is very important for students to have their step card everyday.
Effort and citizenship grades will be earned according to the school rubrics available on the home page of the Rio Seco website. Academic grades will be earned based on mastery of content and depth of knowledge in each content area.
Supplies that your student should have each day are as follows:
3 inch Binder
College ruled three hole punched lined paper
Set of crayons
Set of colored pencils
Set of markers
Single subject spiral notebook for journal writing
Bottled water is ok. Other food and drink are not allowed in the classroom.
Communication is an important aspect of success. If issues arise, please do not hesitate to contact me. You can call me at 619-956-5578, or you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you in advance for your support and I look forward to working with each of you towards a successful and productive year!
