    Dear Parents,

Welcome to a new school year at the Sycamore Canyon Preschool! I hope everyone had a wonderful summer. I feel rested and ready for a great year. I am really looking forward to spending time with your children..   The first day of school will be August 21, 2017.  AM class will be 9 -12 and the PM class with be 12:30-3. We are excited to be starting a new year.  Some of the students in the class are returning and others will be new to the class.

I have 3 instructional assistants in my morning class and Mrs. Robyn an I will co-teach the PM class with two assistants. If you ever wish to volunteer, you will need to fill out a volunteer application each year. You can get an application on the Santee Website, in the front office, or let me know and I can send you one.

The curriculum will be based around the goals that were developed at your child’s last IEP meeting as well as the state preschool foundation standards. The classroom is language based which means the focus all day is on building better language and vocabulary. We do this through a lot of fun activities, exploration, movement, and music. Fine and gross motor development is also a huge part of our program so children participate in daily activities to strengthen these areas. We focus on different themes throughout the year and well as specific focus skills each month. This first  couple week we will concentrate on learning the daily routines and give the children the opportunity to explore learning materials and play centers.

We have 6 specialized instruction preschool classrooms at Sycamore Canyon currently. By having all the preschool classes on one campus it allows us to do a lot of collaborating and place kids as needed to the programs that best meet their needs without children having to change schools.

We encourage each child to have a backpack labeled with their name to carry their things in. We have a lunch break every day at 11:15. There is a cafeteria where a lunch or snacks can be purchased. Please fill out a lunch application for a free or reduced lunch if you are interested. If you are not purchasing lunch at the school, please send in a lunch box with your child’s name on it with a healthy snack/lunch and drink for your child each day.

During preschool some students are working on potty training. If your child is not yet potty trained or has accidents please keep 2 extra pull-ups/diapers/underwear and a change of clothing in his/her backpack in case they are needed along with package of disposable wipes.

I believe that good communication between home and school is essential to maximize the preschool learning experience. I will do my best to communicate with you as often as I can letting you know some of the things that we did during the week and skills we worked on so that you can reinforced these at home and let you know how your child is doing. Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you have. As you are aware from the media, the schools have been hit hard financially and all the teachers have been asked to cut costs wherever possible. In order to save paper and ink, I am asking parents who have email access to provide me with the information so I can communicate important information quickly.. By having everyone’s email I can also send home group reminders of things going on.  I also us an app call See Saw that allows me to post pictures, text messages, and share links.  If you would like to join this app I will be sending home a QR code for you to scan to your phone, tablet or computer for viewing.

We will be having Back to School Night on Thursday September 7th. I will give you more information about the classroom and go over our daily schedule.

The students will know me as Ms. Chrissy. Just a little bit about me.  I have been working with preschool age children for 22 years.  I have an AS in Child Development, an BS in Early Childhood Education, a Credential in Special Education and a Masters in Special Education and a Special Education Preschool Certificate.  This is my third year with Santee School District but,  I taught one year in preschool special ed. in Cajon Valley Union School District.  I am so excited to be teaching in Santee again this year.
