• COBRA 
     
    The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) gives workers and their families who lose their benefits the right to choose to continue group benefits provided by their group plan for limited periods of time under certain circumstances such as voluntary or involuntary job loss. 
     
    COBRA coverage starts the 1st day of the month after employment ends, and extends up to 18 months for the employee and 36 months for dependents. The insurance premiums plus a 2% administrative fee, will be at your expense. Payments are due monthly.

    Retirement 
     
    Eligibility for benefits:  15 years of service, the last 5 years were consecutive, and must have already reached the age of 55
     
    Employees who do not meet all of those qualifications, are only eligible for COBRA.
     
    Employees who have reached their 65th birthday, are eligible for Medicare. Therefore, will not be offered District provided medical coverage. Any dependents on your coverage when you retire, will be eligible for COBRA.
     
    Upon the month of retirement, you will receive a letter from the benefits dept. with basic information pertaining to your plans.It will give you important details about your current coverage, and what to expect closer to your retirement date. 
     
    After your official last day, our retirement provider, Discovery Benefits will send you important information you need for Retirement including:

    *Options for dependent changes
    *Open Enrollment Information
