• WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT HOMEWORK

With the new Common Core Standards, the concept of nightly homework is changing. As we work to make this transition, please be patient as homework takes on a slightly different look.

    •  With the exception of on-going projects, homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday.

    • The goal of nightly homework is three-fold:

to review and practice academic skills
to develop homework responsibility of taking it home - doing it - and bringing it back

to give parents an opportunity to see and be involved in their child's daily work

    • Homework usually consists of:

Reading Fluency This is a selection that is to be read aloud each night to an adult.  This will usually be poetry. Each selection lasts for the whole week. The goal is for students to read with accuracy, smoothness, appropriate pace, and expression.

Math - It is my goal to send Math homework home every night.

Projects - At least once a month students will be working on a project. A project sheet will always be sent home with information about it including the due date. I will always ask that parents initial the project sheet so that there will be no surprises.
