  • Weather and Seasons

Posted by Mrs. Rosa and Mrs. Snyder at 3/19/2013
Last week in Science, we studied weather and seasons.  In writing, we have been working on our creative writing stories.  For this blog entry, write a creative writing story (creative narrative that is NOT about yourself - fantasy) where the setting takes place during your favorite season or type of weather.

  • 100th Day!

Posted by Mrs. Rosa and Mrs. Snyder at 2/8/2013
We have been in school for 100 days (and the number is growing)!  In honor of the 100th day, write a short story about one of the following prompts.

Pretend you are 100 years old.  What do you look like?  What do you like to do for fun?  What is life like in 94ish years?

    or

Pretend you had $100 to spend.  What would you buy?  Why?  How would you get it?

  • Story Ideas

Posted by Mrs. Snyder and Mrs. Rosa at 1/21/2013
We have begun writing narrative paragraphs with five sentences each.  These narratives have been "stories" about things that have happened to us.  So far, our class topics have been "Christmas Morning" and "A Trip" (a vacation or even just a trip to the store).  What are some other topics that you would like to write about that would let us tell about experiences you have had?

FYI - Our basic format for these five sentence narratives is as follows:
    1st sentence - introduces the topic                i.e. for "A Trip"  I went ___________________.
2nd sentence - 1st detail about the topic                                  First, ___________________.
3rd sentence - 2nd detail about the topic                                 Next, ___________________.
4th sentence - 3rd detail about the topic                                   Last, ___________________.
5th sentence - Closing sentence about the topic                     [The trip] was ____________, and I felt ________________.
                               and how you felt
As students gain confidence with this basic structure, we encourage them to add detail and substance to the sentences/paragraph.

  • 2013!!!

Posted by Mrs. Rosa and Mrs. Snyder at 1/7/2013
Happy New Year!!!  We have entered 2013.  It is a tradition to set a "New Year's Resolution" at the beginning of a new year.  It is like a goal, something that you would like to accomplish or work on during the coming year.  We have already set goals for ourselves for the second trimester.  Have you set a goal for yourself for the new year, a "New Year's Resolution"?  Please share your resolutions with us!

  • Change Over Time

Posted by Mrs. Rosa and Mrs. Snyder at 9/29/2012
We have been learning about how things have changed over time.  We looked at some ways that Santee has changed, and how it looked in the past.  You have all selected a type of transportation to research to see how it has changed.  Tell about something that surprised you about the way Santee or transportation have changed.

  • Greater Than or Less Than

Posted by Mrs. Rosa and Mrs. Snyder at 9/21/2012
In math last week we learned about comparing numbers using greater than or less than.  Use your new understanding of "greater than" and "less than" to give clues about a mystery number (example below).  Make sure you write in an answer too.  We will share your clues to try to solve your mystery number in class.

    Example:
    Clues:
My mystery number is greater than 3.
    It is less than 5.
    Answer:
    My mystery number is 4.

Please remember to tell us what it is greater than, what it is less than, and the answer.  Have fun!
