    Welcome to the
    2017-2018
    School Year
    and
    Mr. Saksa's
    Explorers' Classroom!

    PARENTS!

YOU'RE INVITED to join your student's Edmodo Class! See their assignments, due dates, if and when they turned the assignments in, and the grade they earned! FROM YOUR SMART PHONE, Just text 27291 and then class code qbj8h9 for MATH; for ELA use class code 3jxi84 (codes are CASE-SENSITIVE). PLEASE JOIN US AND HELP MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING!

I would like to welcome you and your student to Mr. Saksa’s 4th Grade Explorers’ class! I am extremely excited about all the great things we will accomplish together this year!

PLEASE! COMPLETE this PARENT SURVEY online Google Form to tell me about how I can better help your child!

Our classroom will be the only one on campus that has a SMART Board! We will be doing most of our work with iPads! You can look forward to experiencing your student’s classroom in a wonderful new way; Our classroom will be using the Google Classroom as one of our primary class/work management systems, using their iPads. For the most part, I will be communicating with you digitally, as well, using Google Classroom, Edmodo, Class Dojo, and email, as well. I feel that communication between all of us (parent, teacher, student) is critical to your child’s overall success.
If you do NOT have the "Class Dojo" app, you can download it for free onto your smart phone. I suggest that you have it on your phone, so that you can get real time updates on the class, but primarily, on your child! Let me know if you have questions about that. I will be providing more information on that either during the first few weeks or at "Back to School" night!

    PLEASE NOTE:

    • School starts promptly at 7:45 A.M. and ends at 2:01 P.M. Please ensure your student arrives on time to school. Any student entering the class after the door is closed, will be marked tardy.

    STUDENT CLASSROOM SUPPLIES:

Here is a list of supplies that your student will need immediately to get started:

Pencils/mechanical pencils students are to be PREPARED for EACH school day by having AT LEAST TWO pencils or pens READY (sharpened if that's the case) at the BEGINNING of the school day, BEFORE school starts! If you are purchasing pencils, do NOT waste your time or money buying anything but TICONDEROGA brand! The others usually only have 50%-70% of the pencils in a box usable!

STUDENTS MUST HAVE HEADPHONES OR EAR BUDS FOR IPAD USE! Each student must have these in order to use their iPads during class! (You can purchase these as low as $1.00 at Dollar Tree or other dollar stores. Higher quality earphones or ear buds can be purchased at Target or Walmart for as low as $5.00).

Pencil pouch or plastic "tool" box for storing classroom tools (pens, pencils, sharpener, etc.)

Pencil sharpener (Hand-held), NO BATTERY OPERATED (very distracting to other students working)

Ink pens (black, blue, green and red). They will be writing mostly with black and blue. Green and red colored pens will be used mostly for editing and correcting. STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BRING SHARPIES!

Dry-Erase markers (ideally, a few broad tip and fine-tip, but either one is fine): Again, dark colors are BEST (black, blue, green, red, and brown).

Small Dry-Erase ERASER (CLEAN, used small socks work well, too!)

    Scissors: (7" student version, PLEASE)

    PE ATTIRE:
As it stands, we will be participating in P.E. three days per week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and sometimes, Fridays. PLEASE ensure that your student comes to school wearing shoes and clothing appropriate for P.E. / sports activities on those days. They are welcome to bring PE clothes to change into during recess or lunch break.
