August 2014

Welcome!  The Board of Education and I would like to welcome you to the start of another exciting school year. This year is particularly exciting because it marks   the beginning of the Santee School District’s 1:1 Digital Learning Program.  Proudly, Santee School District is tapping the power of technology to empower students and to enhance their learning.

Our Digital Learning Program is a three-year plan designed to put an iPad in the hands of each student to use for learning during the instructional day and to use in the evenings and on weekends for extended learning opportunities.  During the 2014-15 school year, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders  will receive an iPad.  Next year, students in grades 6, 7 and 8 are scheduled to receive their iPad    and the third year out, we are planning for our K, 1, and 2 students to receive their iPad.

By giving students a device and using it as a tool for learning, students can learn the Common Core State Standards at a deeper, more complex level.  The District has equipped the iPads with state of the art digital content and programs that are aligned to the Common Core State Standards and are designed to personalize learning.

We have invested in software applications to provide our students with creative development tools such as iMovie and Educreations.  With these tools, students will be able to create complex, multidimensional presentations and projects.  Technology gives students the ability to access to content, create, collaborate, communicate, and think critically 24/7/365 and anywhere, any time, and any place.

As students use the iPads this year, we will continue to discover new and innovative applications for these amazing learning tools.  It’s truly an exciting time for learning!

Technology is transforming the world in which we live, and we have a remarkable opportunity to change when, where, what, and how students learn.  Your teachers, the principals, and I welcome any questions you might have regarding our Digital Learning Program, and we look forward to working with you as we continue to explore and define learning using technology.

A world of learning is at our students’ fingertips.  With you as a collaborative partner, our students are destined for success.
