Welcome! The Board of Education and I would like to welcome you to the start of another exciting school year, filled with growing and learning. We are ready and set for greatness to unfold during the 2015-16 school year!
Technology is transforming the world in which we live, and Santee School District is changing when, where, what, and how students learn. The District’s most innovative initiative is our 1:1 Digital Learning Program. Through this pioneering enterprise, Santee School District is tapping the power of technology to empower students and staff with their learning.
During the 2014-15 school year, students in grades 3, 4, and 5 received an iPad to use for learning during the instructional day and to use in the evenings and on weekends for extended learning opportunities. iPads for students in grades 6, 7, and 8 are scheduled to be deployed this fall, and we are planning on distributing iPads to students in grades K, 1, and 2 in January 2016.
The 1:1 Digital Learning Initiative is not about the iPad per se, but rather the power the device brings to the students and their learning. We believe when students have a readily accessible device, they can learn the new California Standards at a deeper, more complex level in a personalized learning environment.
To advance our students’ learning, the District has equipped the iPads with state-of-the-art digital applications fully aligned to the new California Standards and designed to personalize learning. These digital apps and programs are designed to advance our students with their creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication development. With these applications, students will be able to create complex, multidimensional presentations and projects. In addition, these cutting-edge tools will enable students to move into the arena of problem-based learning, where students are applying knowledge to unique and novel situations. A world of learning is at our students’ fingertips and the confines of the classroom are now boundless.
