• First Day of School for the 2016-2017 year will be Monday, August 22nd! 
     
    Teacher work schedule: Your child's teachers are on a job share (shared contract). Mrs. Best teaches Mondays through Thursdays and Mrs. Sanders teaches on Fridays.  For the first week of school, we volunteer extra time so that we both can be at school every day to get to know the new little froggies together. 
     
     Communication: Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns! We may not be able to answer an email or a phone call during class time, so if you need to reach us right away (or have information we need that day), please call the school office and they will be sure to get it to us!

    You may always send in an old fashioned written note in your child's froggy folder. We check the folders every morning!

    Daily Folders:  Your child will have a froggy folder that goes home and comes back to school EVERY DAY, even if it is empty! This is used for any paper communication between home and school.
     
    School Start Time: Every morning we gather at the flagpole at 7:40 a.m. You are welcome to stand behind our line to say the Pledge of Allegiance with us and then wave goodbye as the children walk to our classroom, ready for a fantastic day! Separation can be very difficult for some children. Prolonging the goodbye does make the situation worse. The best thing to do is to establish a routine of one quick hug, reassure them that you will see them later and then walk away. 
     
    Dismissal: Primary dismissal is 1:35, however, for the first few weeks of school we will begin to dismiss the students at 1:20 to ensure that everyone safely gets to the correct adult or location. 
    We will meet you at the kindergarten playground gate and dismiss through that gate. Once all the children are settled, we will dismiss them one at a time to you. Your child will only be released to the person you have listed on the card in the school office.  Project Safe (before and after school daycare) students will stay with us until we deliver them to Project Safe staff members.  Bus riders will be escorted to the bus. Please wait outside the kindergarten gate rather than going through the office. 
     
    Absences: Please phone in your child's absence 619-258-2205 even if you have already notified the teachers. If your child will be out of school for 4 or more days (not due to illness), please let us know in advance so we can get an Independent Study Packet and forms prepared. 
     
     
    Teachers' After School Duties: On certain days Mrs. Best or Mrs. Sanders is responsible for walking the bus riders to the bus. On these days, you will pick up your child from the same spot at the kindergarten gate. The other wonderful kindergarten team teachers will be supervising the children.  If your dismissal plans change for your child, please send in a note or call the office 619-258-4800. 
     
     
     
    Recess: 9:40-10:00 If you are sending in a snack for recess, PLEASE put the snack into a separate bag from your child’s lunch or lunch money and clearly mark it with your child’s name and the word “snack”. This helps with getting everyone out to recess more smoothly and eliminates the possibility of accidentally throwing away “leftovers” that are meant to be for lunch. Children can purchase a breakfast "snack" at recess also (same account as lunch.) See below.
     
     
    Lunch: 11:10-11:50 The children are supervised at all times at the lunch tables and on the playground. We will provide extra support as needed to help the children through the lunch line and with getting settled for lunch. Children can purchase lunch daily or you can prepay online to your child’s account via the link on the district website. If you choose to send in money with your child, please place it in an envelope with your child's name on it and place it in your child's froggy folder.  
    You may also apply online for free/reduced lunch or can print out and return the form to school.  Miss Norma, our health clerk, processes these quickly; however, you will still need to pay for lunch until the application is approved. No child is ever left without lunch—if you leave the money or lunch in the car one day, don’t worry!
       
    Label items:  Please put your child's name on the inside of his/her lunchbox, snack box/bag,
    on any lunch money bag/envelope, and on the inside labels of jackets. 
     
     
    Bathrooms: We have a private bathroom in our classroom that the students will use throughout the day. Additionally, students will have access to the larger bathrooms near the primary playground during lunch and other times. Children will be encouraged to visit the bathroom as needed. Ideally, they will get used to a schedule in order to minimize time away from learning and to avoid accidents.
     
    Sharing: Every child will have a special week to be our classroom “Featured Frog” and will get to create a special poster at home to share with our class! Also, your child may bring some special items and share their significance.
     
    Birthdays and Holidays: We can celebrate your child's birthday at school. Please feel free to send in a non-edible party favor, or donate a book to the class on your child's special day. Please do not send in cupcakes on your child's birthday.since non-compliant foods are not allowed (district policy) except for one celebration day per month. No home-made goods are allowed at any time. 
    If you are having a party outside of school time, you may send in invitations or information for parents to contact you. We will be sure to get the invites/paper into their folders to go home.
    Please let us know if you do not wish to celebrate your child's birthday or other holidays.
     
    Conferences: Parent-Teacher Conference days will be December 5-9, 2016. We will be on our modified-day schedule (7:45-12:30) all week.
     
    Parent Volunteers:  Please see the volunteer packet that will be coming home the first day of school. There are several ways you can volunteer at school: Breakfast Club, in our classroom, on our field trips, reading with students, Arts Attack, Picture Day, health office screenings, PTA special events, library/book fair, hiking and running clubs, and yearbook! We will set up a schedule for our classroom volunteers and provide more information at our Back to School Night, Thursday, September 8, 2016 from 5:30 -7:00 p.m.  Mark your calendars! We will discuss curriculum and homework. 
     
     
    How to Volunteer: You will be required to submit forms and be approved as a registered school volunteer. This must be done every school year.
    If this is your first year at our school, you will also be required to attend a parent volunteer orientation. Please check the school website for these important orientation dates!
