Transitional Kindergarten (TK)

Transitional Kindergarten

The California Kindergarten Readiness Act established a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program for children who miss the September 1st birth date cutoff to enroll in Kindergarten. Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is a pre-Kindergarten program designed to build a bridge between early learning and Kindergarten. This program provides time for younger students to engage in early academic learning experiences designed to promote success in kindergarten and beyond. Santee School District offers a half-day TK program at selected school sites. Students in the TK Program complete a full year in TK, and then a full year in regular kindergarten before moving on to First Grade.
