The Santee School District Board of Education met at 6 p.m. June 18, 2024. Meeting highlights included:
Reports and Presentations
- The Board of Education recognized the Kiwanis Club of Santee for their outstanding contribution to Santee School District students in sponsoring and orchestrating the annual Junior Olympics event for over 40 years. Santee School District students in grades 4 – 8 work diligently with their classroom teachers to train for a variety of track and field events in preparation for the Kiwanis Junior Olympics.
- The California School Dashboard provides parents and educators with information on school and district progress on local indicators beyond test scores alone. The Dashboard provides a more complete picture of how schools and districts are meeting the needs of all students. Using the approved self-reflection tools for each local indicator in the Dashboard, the District achieved a rating of “Standard Met” for each area.
Public Hearings
- A Public Hearing was held for the proposed use of Educational Protection Account Funds in 2024-25. Details can be found in the Board Packet.
- A Public Hearing was held for the use of Government Code 4217.12 to Utilize CalSHAPE Funds for Improvements of Plumbing Systems Districtwide. Details can be found in the Board Packet.
Discussion and/or Action Items
- The Board appointed Hanna Rainbolt as Special Education Coordinator. Ms. Rainbolt has served as both a teacher at Hill Creek and a Behavior Specialist in the District. As a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst, Ms. Rainbolt studies the behavior of children and adults, including those with developmental disabilities or social/emotional issues and is an expert in creating plans to improve or change problematic behavior. In her new role as Coordinator, Ms. Rainbolt will be able to continue in this field of expertise and also supervise the cadre of Student Support Assistants (SSA) to make a greater impact on student and teacher needs District-wide.
- The Board adopted the first year of the three year Local Control Accountability Plan. You can read a quick overview of what is in the LCAP here, or read the full plan here.
- The Board approved the Outdoor Education Agreement with the San Diego County Office of Education.
- The Board adopted the budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year as presented. Revisions to the budget will be brought back to the Board periodically throughout the year as the State’s budget is adopted and assumptions or expenditures change. You can review the User Friendly Budget here.
- The Board adopted resolution No. 2324-26 accepting the $1,258,950 CalSHAPE Ventilation Program grant to assess all ventilation systems throughout the district. The ventilation grant will allow Santee School District to contract with an outside agency to assess, maintain and repair/replace noncompliant ventilation fixtures to ensure efficiency that will ultimately result in a cost savings to the district.
- The Board approved the ratification of the tentative agreements between Santee School District and the California School Employees Association and its Chapter #557.
- The Board approved the ratification of the tentative agreements between Santee School District and the Santee Teachers Association (STA).
- The Board approved the ratification of the salary increase for Certificated Management, Classified Management, and Confidential Employees, for 2023-2024 and 2024-2025.
Board Policies and Bylaws
- The Board adopted: BP 5141.21 Administering Medication and Monitoring Health Conditions. Policy updated to reflect AB 1283 which authorizes districts to provide emergency stock albuterol inhalers to school nurses or trained personnel who have volunteered, who may use the inhaler to provide emergency medical aid to person(s) suffering, or reasonably believed to be suffering, from respiratory distress, and AB 1722 which authorizes districts to hire a licensed vocational nurse following Governing Board approval that a diligent search was conducted for a credentialed school nurse.
- First reading for Board Bylaw (BB) 9270 – Conflict of Interest (Biennial Review). Board Bylaw 9270 was updated to reflect SB 1439 which makes applicable to elected district officers the prohibition against accepting, soliciting, or directing a contribution of more than $250 from any party or participant to a proceeding involving a license, permit, or other entitlement for use, including a contract, or from that person's agent, while the proceeding is pending before the Board and for 12 months following the date a final decision is rendered in the proceeding, and from participating in making, or in any way attempting to use the official position to influence the Board's decision when a district officer received a contribution of more than $250 from a party or participant in the preceding 12 months, as specified. Bylaw also updated to clarify, for a Board member who manages public investments, that when an item on the consent calendar is one in which the Board member has a financial interest, the Board member is required to either make a motion to remove the item from the consent calendar or abstain from voting on the consent calendar.
