This year, Hill Creek launched a new Tech Elective class for 7th graders, designed to immerse students in the world of coding and programming. In an era where technology is intertwined with nearly every aspect of our lives, equipping students with foundational coding skills is not just beneficial—it’s essential.
“I chose to take this class because I knew that it would be really good for my future and I’m having a lot of fun in this class,” said Tech Elective student, Kaytlin. “I learned that coding can be really easy once you start getting the hang of it.”
A Journey of Discovery
Students are diving into the basics of coding with eagerness, discovering the joy of problem-solving and collaboration. “Students are enthusiastic and enjoy learning new skills, collaborating, and problem solving,” said Charles Applegate, Tech Elective teacher. “It's important to expose students to core concepts of coding and computer science, skills they can develop for their future careers."
Those with a knack for technology have been able to push the boundaries, creating their own projects that showcase their growing skills. Watching these budding programmers bring their ideas to life is a reminder of the power of creativity and innovation in tech. As they learn to think critically and approach problems with a solution-oriented mindset, they are also developing essential life skills.
Looking Ahead
As the students progress throughout the year they will build on foundational skills, exploring programming ideas and potentially developing student-created apps.
Schools across the district are committed to the vision of unlocking the potential of tomorrow by building confident, innovative learners today. This class is not just about coding; it’s about fostering a mindset that embraces challenges and cultivates creativity.
Here’s to a year of exploration, growth, and innovation in Hill Creek’s Tech Elective class!
