At the December 3 Board of Education meeting the Board was joined by local elected officials, staff, and community members to honor a remarkable individual whose leadership and servitude has left an indelible mark on our community - Member Elana Levens-Craig.

Mrs. Levens-Craig's journey began in the classroom as a special education teacher, where she served moderate and severe student populations. It was here that she first demonstrated her unwavering commitment to education and the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive. This foundation laid the groundwork for her incredible journey in leadership and service.

For over twelve years, Mrs. Levens-Craig has served as a member of the Santee School District Board of Education and provided leadership to the Board of Education as President of the Board two times during her tenure. She has been very active in attending school events and student performances across the district as well as observing classroom instruction. Her insights and dedication have been instrumental in guiding our schools through challenges and triumphs alike and her experience in corporate, non-profit, and educational sectors has made her a trusted voice in our community.

In 2004, Mrs. Levens-Craig co-founded Packaging Solutions for Today’s Industry, transforming a mere idea into one of the most respected providers in the market. Her entrepreneurial spirit is a testament to her leadership skills, culminating in the successful sale of the company in 2020.

Her volunteer work is extensive - it’s like the word “no” isn’t even in her vocabulary—unless it’s followed by “I can’t believe you thought I wouldn’t volunteer for that!” From Santee-Lakeside Rotary to East County Meals on Wheels to Father Joe’s Villages to Buddy’s Backpacks and many more organizations, Mrs. Levens-Craig's contributions have touched countless lives. She has not only uplifted our local community but has also made a global impact through Rotary International projects in countries like India, Mexico, Guatemala, and Colombia.

Her accolades are numerous and reflect her passion for service. She has received awards from the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce, the California Senate, and Rotary International, each recognition underscoring her tireless efforts and profound impact. Yet, what truly sets Mrs. Levens-Craig apart is her humble spirit and her belief that service is not just an obligation, but a privilege.

Her devotion to service is matched only by her love for her family. She and her husband Scott have been married for 25 years, and are the proud parents of Kristie and Daniel and grandparents to Trevor and Layla. When she’s not volunteering, she enjoys traveling, theater, hiking, reading, and cheering on her favorite sports teams - especially the Padres.

Mrs. Levens-Craig, thank you for your years of service on this board and your unwavering dedication to building a bright future for this community!
