Initial ELPAC
The Initial English Language Performance Assessment for California (ELPAC) is required for students when they first enroll in a California school and indicate that their primary language is not English. Based on the results of this test, the student will be designated either as "Initially Fluent" or as an "English Learner".
Summative ELPAC
All students who are classified as English Learners will take the Summative ELPAC each year, in February or March, until they are reclassified as proficient in English. The Summative ELPAC includes assessment of students' reading, writing, speaking and listening.
Alternate ELPAC
Students with the most significant cognitive disabilities, as identified by their IEP team, take an alternate versions of the Summative ELPAC. The purpose of this alternate version is to allow students to demonstrate their level of language fluency with whatever methods work best for them.
