The Santee School District is committed to providing a welcoming learning environment where all students, staff, and families are valued and engaged. Throughout the 2026–27 school year, the District will recognize nationally observed heritage and awareness months that reflect the history, cultures, experiences, and contributions of many members of our school community. Schools may support these observances through age-appropriate educational resources, classroom activities, and opportunities for family and community engagement.
September: Hispanic Heritage Month
Santee School District recognizes Hispanic Heritage Month by celebrating the history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic Americans. Students will have opportunities to learn about the traditions, achievements, and lasting impact of Hispanic individuals and communities throughout the United States.
October: National Disability Employment Awareness Month
National Disability Employment Awareness Month recognizes the contributions of individuals with disabilities in the workforce and highlights the importance of equal opportunity and participation. Students may learn about the achievements and talents of people with disabilities across many professions.
October: Filipino American History Month
Filipino American History Month recognizes the history, culture, and contributions of Filipino Americans. The observance commemorates the first documented arrival of Filipinos in the continental United States in 1587 and provides an opportunity to learn about their lasting impact on American history and society.
November: Native American Heritage Month
Native American Heritage Month recognizes the history, traditions, cultures, and contributions of Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and affiliated Island communities. Students will have opportunities to learn about the important role these communities have played throughout the nation's history.
February: Black History Month
Black History Month recognizes the history, achievements, and contributions of African Americans. Throughout the month, schools may provide learning opportunities that highlight individuals and events that have shaped the history and development of the United States.
March: Women's History Month
Women's History Month recognizes the achievements and contributions of women throughout American history. Students will learn about women whose leadership, innovation, and service have influenced education, government, science, business, the arts, and many other fields.
April: Arab American Heritage Month
Arab American Heritage Month recognizes the history, culture, and contributions of Arab Americans. Schools may provide educational activities that highlight the achievements and experiences of Arab Americans throughout the nation's history.
April: Autism Acceptance Month
Autism Acceptance Month recognizes the experiences and contributions of individuals with autism. Schools may provide opportunities to increase understanding, encourage respect, and promote supportive learning environments for all students.
April: Month of the Military Child
Month of the Military Child recognizes the resilience and experiences of military-connected students and families. Santee School District is proud to serve many military families and appreciates their service and commitment to our country and community.
May: Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
This observance recognizes the history, cultures, and contributions of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. Students will have opportunities to learn about the individuals and communities whose achievements have helped shape our nation.
May: Mental Health Awareness Month
Mental Health Awareness Month highlights the importance of emotional well-being and access to support. Schools may provide age-appropriate resources and activities that promote healthy habits, resilience, and awareness of available supports.
May: Jewish American Heritage Month
Jewish American Heritage Month recognizes more than 350 years of Jewish history, culture, and contributions to the United States. Students may learn about the achievements of Jewish Americans in education, science, healthcare, public service, the arts, military service, and many other fields.
