At the September 3, 2024, Board of Education the community gathered to honor and celebrate a remarkable individual who has been a cornerstone of our community for over five decades: Ken Fox. Few in Santee are unfamiliar with Ken’s name, and fewer still have not felt the profound impact of his tireless work and dedication.
Mr. Fox moved to Santee more than 50 years ago, and from that moment on, his influence on the Santee community has been nothing short of transformative. His journey of service began in 1969 when he joined the Army, honorably serving our country until 1972. Mr. Fox's impact in Santee began in 1977 when he first took on the role of coach for his son’s baseball team. Little did he know then that this would be the start of a lifelong commitment to improving the lives of those around him in Santee.
Over the years, Mr Fox's volunteerism has touched countless facets of the community. From his work with the Santee Park & Recreation Committee to his invaluable contributions to the Santee Community Foundation and the Santee School District Board of Education, his involvement has been extensive and deeply impactful. Organizations such as Santee American, Santee Pioneer, United Santee Little Leagues, and the Santee Sports Council have all benefitted from his leadership.
Mr. Fox's exemplary service has not gone unnoticed. In 2010, he was honored with the Outstanding California Park and Recreation Commissioner of the Year award, and in 2013 he was recognized as the Santee Person of the Year. These awards reflect not only his devotion to the Santee community but also the genuine difference he has made.
In 2010, he was elected to the Santee School District Board of Education, a role in which he continued to serve until his resignation in August 2024. Throughout his tenure, he was a driving force, serving on various Board Advisory Committees, impacting all facets of the district from calendars to budgets to wellness and special education. He worked to connect community through playing an active role in the Santee Collaborative for many years. He served as Clerk of the Board in 2012 and 2017, Vice President in 2013 and 2018, and President in 2014 and 2019.
Mr. Fox's commitment to our community goes beyond his volunteerism and service. He worked for Lakeside Bakery for 35 years before retiring. He is supported by his loving wife, Judy, and together they have nurtured two children and three grandchildren who are all part of the Santee community.
Ken Fox is the embodiment of an active citizen and dedicated volunteer. His contributions have not only enhanced the quality of life in Santee but have set a standard of service and involvement for all of us to follow. We express our deepest gratitude for his remarkable service and wish him and his family all the best in the years to come.
