The Santee School District Board of Education met at 6 p.m. July 2, 2024. Meeting highlights included:

Discussion and/or Action Items

  • The Board approved the Workplace Violence Prevention Plan for the 2024-2025 school year. The proposed Workplace Violence Prevention Plan is designed to proactively address and mitigate potential threats to the safety and security of our workplace, and will updated each year to ensure a safe and secure work environment.
  • The Board approved the District school calendar for the 2025-2026 school year. Significant dates include:
    • Students return on August 19, 2025
    • Parent Conferences – November 17-21 (modified days)
    • Veterans Day observance – November 10-11
    • Thanksgiving Break – November 24-28
    • Winter break December 22 – January 2
    • Martin Luther King Day observance – Monday, January 19
    • Lincoln’s Day observance - Monday, February 9
    • President’s Day observance - Monday, February 16
    • Spring Break – March 23 – April 3
    • School year ends on June 10, 2026
  • The Board approved an increase to the daily substitute teacher rate. Rates can be found in the Board Packet.

Board Policies and Bylaws

  • The Board approved updates to Board Bylaw (BB) 9270 – Conflict of Interest (Biennial Review). Board Bylaw 9270 was updated to reflect SB 1439 which makes applicable to elected district officers the prohibition against accepting, soliciting, or directing a contribution of more than $250 from any party or participant to a proceeding involving a license, permit, or other entitlement for use, including a contract, or from that person's agent, while the proceeding is pending before the Board and for 12 months following the date a final decision is rendered in the proceeding, and from participating in making, or in any way attempting to use the official position to influence the Board's decision when a district officer received a contribution of more than $250 from a party or participant in the preceding 12 months, as specified. Bylaw also updated to clarify, for a Board member who manages public investments, that when an item on the consent calendar is one in which the Board member has a financial interest, the Board member is required to either make a motion to remove the item from the consent calendar or abstain from voting on the consent calendar.
