The Santee School District Board of Education met at 6 p.m., Tuesday, May 19, 2026. Meeting highlights included:

Reports and Presentations

  • Spotlight on Education - Eighth Grade Student Academic Achievement Awards: The Board honored students who were selected to compete in the Academic Achievement Award competition for the 2025-26 school year. This year's winners and honorees include:
    • Overall Winner: Caledon Taylor, Chet F. Harritt
    • Speech Winner: Emma Solis, Chet F. Harritt
    • Essay Winner: Cyrus Givens, Carlton Hills
    • Mathematics Winner: Frans QoQa, PRIDE Academy
    • Job well-done to all of our participants:

Discussion and/or Action Items

  • Approval of Director, Safety and Security Job Description: The Board approved the job description for the Director, Safety and Security. The job  description can be found in the Board Packet.

  • Adoption of Resolution No. 2526-19 Authorizing Transfer from fund 17 to fund 01 for Mathematics Curriculum Adoption: The Board adopted Resolution No. 2526-19 authorizing the transfer of $2,944,455 from Fund 17, Special Reserve Fund, to Fund 01, General Fund, for the purchase and implementation of mathematics instructional materials associated with the District’s mathematics adoption.

  • May Revise and State Budget Update: This past week, Governor Newsom released an update to his January proposal for the 2026-27 State Budget, commonly referred to as the May Revise. Administration provided the Board of Education with an update on State revenue projections, Proposition 98 calculations, and any changes to the Governor’s plans for K12 education funding for 2026-27 as compared with the January proposal.

  • Approval of Math Adoption - Amplify (K-5) Imagine Math (6-8): The Board approved the adoption of Amplify Desmos for grades K-5 and Imagine Math for grades 6-8.
  • Approval to Submit Department of War Education Activity (DoWEA) Construction, Modernization, and Facilities Maintenance Program Grant Application: The goal of the Department of War Education Activity (DoWEA) Construction, Modernization, and Facilities Maintenance Program Grant is to strengthen learning conditions for military-connected students by addressing critical infrastructure needs. The Board approved an application to modernize and upgrade PRIDE Academy’s middle school facilities to improve safety, accessibility, and educational adequacy. The project plan includes the construction of two modular fixed foundation buildings that would provide 4 instructional classrooms to support our increasing enrollment at this school site. In this construction, new code requires additional solar to be included within the project scope.
