The Santee School District Board of Education met at 6 p.m. September 17, 2024. Meeting highlights included:

Reports and Presentations

  • Spotlight: 13th Annual School Beautification Day - The Board and Administration recognized and expressed appreciation for the efforts of Pathways Church and the many volunteers who participated in School Beautification Day. For 13 years now, Pathways Community Church has coordinated School Beautification Day, coordinating the completion of numerous projects at all nine of the District’s schools.

Public Hearing

  • A public hearing was held for Compliance with Education Code Section 60119 (Williams Settlement): K-12 Textbook and Instructional Materials Funding Realignment Program.

Discussion and/or Action Items

  • The Board appointed the Superintendent’s committee assignments to fill vacancies on the various Board Advisory Committees. The applicants represent a variance of schools throughout the District. Appointments can be found in the Board Packet.
  • The Board approved the agreement with The Sobel Group (TSG) for investigative services to verify residency of students in hopes of enhancing accuracy of student residency verification, preventing unauthorized access to District resources by nonresident students, and ensuring compliance with residency policies, thus maintaining fairness and transparency in the student enrollment process.
  • The Board approved a reorganization within Information Technology (IT), the job descriptions for Computer Support Technician, Coordinator, IT and Cybersecurity/Network Analyst, and the appointment of Matt Marsman to the position of Coordinator, IT. This restructure will allow a potential cost savings of approximately $80,000 and will address several Grand Jury report recommendations regarding school-based cybersecurity.
  • The Board approved the Memorandum of Understanding with the San Diego Food Bank for the Food 4 Kids Backpack Program in 2024-2025 school year.

The San Diego Food Bank provides meals to approximately 400,000 people every month, including children and their families. To reach more families who are suffering from nutrition insecurities, the food bank provides school districts with non-perishable food items to share with students and families through the Food 4 Kids Backpack Program. The Food Bank anticipates being able to serve 100 students in Santee School District this school year through this specific program. Weekly bags of food items will then be picked up by families, excluding weeks for holiday closure, to ensure students have access to food over the weekend. All students enrolled in this program will receive one free backpack at the start of the program, which could be used for transporting the weekly non-perishables.

The next regular meeting of the Santee School District Board of Education will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2024, in the Educational Resource Center, 9619 Cuyamaca, Santee. Meetings can also be live-streamed at santeesd.net/LiveBoardMeeting.
