The Santee School District Board of Education met at 6 p.m., Tuesday, September 2, 2025. Meeting highlights included:

Reports and Presentations

  • Spotlight on Education: Expanded Learning Program. The ELP team showcased their growth over the past three years and celebrated the success of their new specialty camps and events.

Discussion and/or Action Items

  • The Board appointed Lee Vowinkel as Coordinator, Health and Nursing Services, effective September 22, 2025. Ms. Vowinkel has been serving as the District Nurse at Ramona Unified School District since 2023. Prior to that, Ms. Vowinkel was a Nurse Research Coordinator and a Clinical Research Nurse/Clinical Nurse at the University of San Diego, and a Registered Nurse at Scripps Memorial Hospital. Ms. Vowinkel holds a Master of Science in Nursing, a School Nurse Services Credential, and a certification as a School Audiometrist.
  • The Board approved the Proposition 28: Arts and Music in Schools Funding Annual Report for fiscal year 2024-25. Each year the District is required to submit an annual report to the California Department of Education reporting on the District’s use of Prop 28 funding. For the 2024-25 school year the District’s Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) program was staffed by eight dedicated educators specializing in music or theater, bringing expertise and passion to their teaching. Six of the eight educators are funded through Prop 28 and the remaining two educators are funded through General Fund. Each week, students participated in engaging activities designed to develop their skills and
    confidence. The program is structured to provide consistent exposure to the arts ensuring a balanced and comprehensive arts education.
