The San Diego County Registrar announced the statewide results of the November 8, 2022, election, including the following results for the three open Santee School District Board of Education positions:
- Seat 1 – Barbara Ryan, incumbent
- Seat 3 – Dustin Burns, incumbent
- Seat 5 – Ken Fox, incumbent
“Thank you to all of the candidates who ran to serve the school district community,” said Santee School District Superintendent, Dr. Kristin Baranski. “This community has continued to re-elect Board member incumbents knowing their track record for providing a consistent focus and commitment to student-centered decision making. I look forward to continuing to work with the Board of Education in moving our district forward and providing an exceptional learning environment for our students.”
Barbara Ryan is the longest serving Board Member in the district’s history, with her first term beginning in 1979. Over the past four decades Mrs. Ryan has served the community in several capacities to support children, including sitting on several committees throughout San Diego County to advance the needs of students through legislative advocacy. In her next term, she plans to continue her focus on safe and secure campuses, mental and behavioral health support for families and creating educational opportunities that adequately prepare students for their future.
“I would like to thank the community for their support in my re-election,” said Ms. Ryan. “Creating a bright future for our children is my goal and I am excited to continue that work in serving Santee families over the next four years.”
Ken Fox will be serving his fourth consecutive term on the Board of Education. As a resident of Santee for over 40 years, Mr. Fox has been involved in various youth recreational programs, currently serves on the City of Santee Parks and Recreation committee and volunteers at various community events. Academic performance, parent and community involvement and focused leadership are key areas Mr. Fox will continue to concentrate on in his next term.
“I have proudly served the Santee School District as a Board member for the past 12 years, and I thank the community for their trust and support in my next term,” said Mr. Fox. “I will continue to support students, families and staff by working with my fellow Board members in a fair and sensible manner to provide a thriving educational environment.”
This will be Dustin Burns’ sixth consecutive term as a Board Member. As a native of Santee, Mr. Burns has watched the district grow first-hand, from his time as a student to now being an active parent at Cajon Park. His knowledge and ties in this community and his experience working at the San Diego County Office of Education give Mr. Burns a unique perspective as a Board Member. Mr. Burns will continue his focus on student safety, campus security, and academic performance in his next term.
“My roots are in this community, and as a resident, parent and Board Member, I am committed to the success of our students,” said Mr. Burns. “It is an honor to serve this community and this board, and I look forward to working with our families to provide the best opportunities for our children.”
