3/2/22 Letter to Families: Update to Mask Policy

Indoor Masks “Strongly Recommended” Effective Monday, March 14

Dear Santee School District Families,

During last night’s Board of Education meeting, our Board took action to support mask choice for students effective Monday, March 14, 2022. While wearing a mask indoors is still strongly recommended by the State, the District will respect individual choice when it comes to masking.

However, if a student needs to visit the school health office or the District’s COVID testing center, students will be required to wear a mask in those locations.

We feel confident in the multiple strategies we have been using to support student and staff safety and will continue to use these strategies as masks become personal choice (e.g. daily COVID testing available for students and staff, HEPA filters in every classroom and office space, outdoor learning and lower class sizes to allow for social distancing).

Please know that as we transition from masks required indoors to strongly recommended as of March 14, students and teachers will have discussions about the allowance for this personal choice and how we treat one another based on these decisions.

You can read the full statement from Governor Newsom here. Please contact your school office with further questions.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kristin Baranski
Superintendent
