Oct 28 Your iPad and and your bluetooth keyboard have 2 separate charging cables. The iPad charger is white, the keyboard charger is black. Both were in the little baggie that came with your iPad. To charge the keyboard, attach the black cable to the side of the keyboard near the power switch and attach the other end to your power block, and then a wall outlet. iPad enhanced Picture Walks

Reflector tip! If your Reflector isn't showing up or working properly, try right-clicking on the tiny reflector icon in your tray (very bottom right of your laptop screen) and choosing "Exit". Then re-open Reflector by double-clicking the larger Reflector icon on your desktop, and then trying to reconnect from Airplay on your iPad. This often solves any glitches or hiccups without having to completely reboot your iPad or Laptop.

Nov 11 Kids always asking, "How do you spell...?" Try setting up your teacher iPad somewhere while kids are writing, with the "notes" app open. Students can come up and select the microphone from the keyboard and speak the word they want to spell. Speech to text will dictate it for them and they can jot it down and return to writing. Watch out for homophones! Media-Based writing prompts

Nov 18 Accidentally delete something while you were typing? Screen go wonky? Do you find yourself saying things like, "Whoa what just happened?" when you're working on your computer? Try this magic spell: Hold down the Control Key and press Z on your keyboard. This can be done in any program or online to "undo" the last thing that happened, even when you have no idea what you did! Give it a try! How close to 100? Math activity

Dec 2 Most projector remotes have a "Freeze" and a "Blank" button. Blank will black out your screen until you press the button again. Freeze will lock the screen on the current image, even if you go to a different screen on your computer or put a different page under your doc cam. Press "Freeze" again to turn the mode off. Dec 9 Can't find something on your iPad? Simply press anywhere on the background image on your desktop screen and gently pull down to open "Spotlight Search". From there you can type in the name of an app, a contact, an email subject, or keyword from a note, and your iPad will find it and list it for you. Select the one you want from the list. Using Popplet to practice syllables, affixes and word parts (1 Pad class or 1:1)

Dec 16 Need help with SchoolNet? Katy made you a quick video tutorial showing how to search, save in favorites, and how to take a portion of a longer pdf and pull out small portions. Check it out here. Explore validating research sources with your kids before rolling out a research project. Here are some sites that look official, but need further examination ;)

Jan 6 Save time by using some keyboard shortcuts! Highlight text, then press control+C to copy the text, or control+X to cut it. Then press control+V to paste in another document, window, or field. Use Wonderopolis to share a daily "Wonder" with students. The site often has video, a short quiz, and follow up activities to engage, curiosity, research, engagement, and critical thinking. Katy has created another great tutorial for you! This time she has shared how to use some of the important features in dreambox!
Jan 13 Want to show a youtube video with no ads or suggested videos? Go to Viewpure.com and paste in the original youtube link for clean, safe viewing without distractions. For quick substitution-level tech integration: Open "Pixie" on a computer or iPad. Choose "Projects", then select the "Activities" tab for tons of pre-made lesson templates and graphic organizers including time, money, venn diagrams, lined paper and more.

Need to get your students to a website but the URL is really long? Use a URL shortener like bit.ly or goo.gl. The latter will also generate a QR code for you, but you will need a google account.

Jan 27 Use fur.ly to curate multiple websites into one link. Allow students to quickly move back and forth between only the websites you designate. Awesome for Social Studies and Language Arts units. More vs. Less: Math Journals with Book Creator

Feb 2 From your teacher iPad, download the NGSS and CCSS apps for free. Search: "Common Core Standards"and "NGSS" respectively. These apps allow for quick, friendly access to important standards by grade level and content area, with helpful descriptors and easy-to-use features and functions. A must have for teachers. Using class iPads for graphing activities with students.

We will go over adding students, giving assignments, quizzes, and polls, as well as using the backpack and library. Come and get workflow-y!

Feb 17 Use photosforclass.com to allow students to search screened images with usage rights for students. The downloaded image will contain the image credits in citation form. Exciting persuasive speaking topics for adolescents. Join us today at 2:30 or 3:30 for an edmodo refresher course at the District Library.

In addition to the Microsoft Suite (which you can download for free on your iPad), you also have Pages, Keynote, and Numbers from Apple. Each app parallels a Microsoft app and works seamlessly with edmodo! Use Pages like you would use Word, Keynote like Powerpoint, and Numbers like Excel. Use these slide to review SBAC related vocabulary with students. Mar 3 Want to shorten a long web address for your students or parents? Copy the full address into a URL shortener like bit.ly or goo.gl. Just type "bit.ly" in your address bar and paste the long url in the paste box. A new short url will be created for you. If you make an account onbit.ly, you can even customize the new short URL to something like bit.ly/santeecrt. Mar 10 Need to select multiple files, pictures, or lines of text at one time? Click on the top item, hold down "shift" and click on the last item. This will select everything in between. Similarly, if you want to select a few scattered files from a folder or menu, hold down the "control" ("command" on a mac) key while you click around on the files you need. Multiple files will be selected for you to move, save, download, etc.

Mar 17 The Google Chrome browser (laptops) allows you to add an extension called "Google Art Project". Once installed, a famous work of art will populate as the background of each new tab you open. The artwork will contain info about where the artwork is currently housed and info about the artist. From your chrome browser choose settings, extensions, add more extensions and search for "Google Art Project." Great for history, art, or writing prompts. The iPad's built-in camera has some fun features like panorama, time-lapse, and slow motion! Use these to create cool "how to's" or to let students showcase their work in creative ways. Google has some helpful tools built into its searches! Click here to see google's built in timer, calculator, and conversion features, just by searching in the google box at google.com. Check out zunal.com for webquests by subject/ topic/ grade level - just check links before sending to kids :)

May 5 You should change the power/ energy settings on your laptop for the testing window. From most PCs, click on the windows start button in the bottom left and search for the words "power" or "energy" this should show you a link to open the power save options window, open it up and change it to never sleep, or never go in to power-save mode. Don't forget to change it back after testing! Coming this month! Check out the YouCubed website for 5 math lessons created for their week of inspirational math. You'll need to make a quick account! Use your browser's bookmark tools to save time! If you have websites you visit often, you can "add to bookmarks bar" in Firefox, Chrome, Safari, or Internet Explorer so that you can always get back to them in one click.

Bonus! Running out of room in your bookmarks bar? Right- click and choose "properties", "rename" or "edit" on anything you've posted to change the name to something simple like "CRTs" or "CCSS". This will save space in your bar by removing the long URLs and replacing with something short and sweet.
