Santee School District

Facilities, Maintenance, & Operations Department

The Santee School District Facilities, Maintenance, & Operations Department maintains approximately 520,000 square feet consisting of nine (9) school sites and a District Office complex.

Our Facilities, Maintenance, & Operations Department is staffed with only five (5) Craftsworkers to maintain ten (10) facilities consisting of approximately 350 classrooms, 350 HVAC units, and various systems. We have three (3) Groundsworkers for over 186 acres to maintain, and Custodial Teams consisting of 28 employees to upkeep our schools and do daily cleaning. We also have one (1) Storekeeper/Craftsworker in our Warehouse handling all supply distribution and mail to all sites and departments daily.

We have had a 25% smaller staff due to budget reductions recently. This productive, lean team will continue to strive for excellence amid environment of reduced staffing and resources. Priority will be emergency, urgent matters pertaining to health and safety of students and staff. Will continue to strive to increase productivity with operational changes, and equipment and procedural efficiencies. Over 400 Work Orders had been completed last year.

All of our employees in our Facilities, Maintenance, & Operations Department take great pride in the excellent service we provide every day to our schools in Santee School District. We believe in safety first and strive for excellence in our response time and customer service to our children and staff daily.

Joint-Use Facilities

To meet the needs of our sites, we have Joint Use fields with the City of Santee. The Joint Use Agreements are at the following schools: Carlton Hills, Carlton Oaks, Chet F. Harritt, Hill Creek, Prospect Avenue, Rio Seco, and the property we own on Mission Gorge Road where the old Santee School used to be. This program has been especially successful for all of the Community. We appreciate the continued cooperation and efforts of the City of Santee helping us with annual maintenance at our joint use turf fields.

Proposition R Bond Program

In November 2006, the voters within Santee School District approved a $60 million dollar General Obligation Bond. Forty-million dollars in bonds have been sold to fund improvements. This bond funding is only a portion of a much larger capital improvement program currently amounting to $139.3 million.

In December 2010, the State released another allocation to the District. In February 2011, modernization began at PRIDE Academy at Prospect Avenue, and the Chet F. Harritt Ball Field Improvements. In June, 2011, modernization began at Chet F. Harritt and Hill Creek Schools. In addition, Hill Creek School also broke ground for their new 2-story, 10-classroom addition with an estimated completion date of April 2012. Santee School District is proud to announce eight of nine schools have been modernized due to Prop R funds.
